Payson AZ Real Estate – How to Protect Your Home from Freezing Temperatures
Here in Arizona it doesn’t happen on a regular bases but we do need to know how to protect our Payson AZ real estate and homes from the freezing temperatures. Whether it’s your pipes, plants or pets you need to take precautions to protect them from the cold.
Pipes: The most important item to protect is the pipes and plumbing in your home. On the outside of your house, disconnect and drain all garden hoses. Then cover hose bibs with insulated foam covers or blankets. It is also a good idea to cover exposed pipe with foam pipe insulation. These items can be purchased at your local hardware store. It is also a good idea to open cabinet doors to keep them warm during the overnight hours when temperatures outside drop.
Plants: Here in the Rim Country, most people have brought in most plants for the winter or have mulched perennials. It is still a good idea to cover other plants that are still outside so they survive the hard frost. Even a sheet or blanket will do the trick.
Pets: Our pets are like family so remember if it’s cold to you outside, then they are also cold. Animals here in Arizona don’t put on a “winter coat” as much as in other parts of the country. So, bring them inside and give them a nice warm blanket to lay on. If there water is outside, remember it will freeze and your pets will not have any water to drink.
Pets and plants are important to protect from the elements but frozen pipes can really cause the most damage to your home. So, remember the 3 “p’s” when the temperatures get freezing.
