Snow Day Fun and Safety

Posted on February 25, 2022 by admin

Snowfall in the high country is a great excuse to head north for some snowplay.

Leave prepared before heading north to play in the snow. ADOT’s suggestions of items to have in a vehicle include warm clothing and blankets, a fully charged mobile phone and charger, a flashlight with extra batteries, drinking water, healthy snacks, a first-aid kit and necessary medications. Get plenty of rest, plan your route and take frequent breaks from driving.

Do not park vehicles on the shoulder of a highway. Pull safely into a designated parking area well off the road.

Be patient and expect to spend extended time in your vehicle getting to and from snow play areas as lots of people typically head north after it snows.

Make sure your gas tank is at least half to three-quarters full at all times, and ensure that your wipers, window defroster, headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals work.

To stay up-to-date with the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information website at az511.gov or call 511.

Looking to be a Rural Resident? The Code of the West may apply

Posted on February 1, 2022 by admin

Rural life presents a different set of circumstances than living within any town or city limits of Gila County. It is best to be aware of what services are or are not available to you as a rural resident. The Code of the West can help guide you in your decision to live a more rural lifestyle. The Code of the West was first chronicled by RimCountry resident and western writer Zane Grey as an unwritten code of conduct with integrity and self-reliance guiding decisions and actions of the early residents.
County services being different from city services means there are certain things to consider before committing to a rural lifestyle. Take into account what it may mean for you in terms of the following:
Emergency Response
Legal Access
Road Maintenance
Private Road Standards
Extreme Weather Driving
Natural Disasters
Utilities
Power Outages
Flash Floods
Wildlife
Deed Restrictions
HOAs
Open Range Laws
And More…explore here: https://www.gilacountyaz.gov/government/community_development/the_code_of_the_west.php
